It was killer.. I just stumbled upon it and watched the second half. I enjoyed it.. Anyone have any excersizes from that style of playing to build some hand chops?

I just recently again watched a "home-style" vid clip i had, stored on disc, of Rick Beckham [standing in what looks like a "backstage area" or small maintenence room] on snare...that fella's got some hands too, mister.
Oh, yeah...cool stick-tricks/flips too.

Yeah, I for one can vouch for Derek's chops-itude. I remember seeing him in the line back in the day with BD. Awesome! A guy in that same line was Roger Carter. He pretty much had the sickest hands ever. Don't let it fool ya though. The cat could wail on the drum set just like Derek.

I am glad to see my corps take it this season. I marched Cadets back in '95 (tenors). Let me tell ya, they earned it folks. The Cadets are well known for being one of (if not) the most disciplined corps out there. The rehearsals are super intense and focused. I actually puked on the field more than a few times! I have to say that it not only developed my hands and ears, It totally changed my life. I only hope that this activity continues to gain momentum in the public eye. It truly is an art form unto itself.

I went to the cadets camp in Orlando and watch them practice for a while. They where playing some pretty insane notes but it wasnt near as clean as they where at finals. I have some videos Here

All of the lines have some basic exersices like 8 on a hand, double beat; triple beat, bucks, flams broken down.

Oh you youngsters.......I marched back when you had drum straps and had to CARRY the timpani....I got out in 74, but did compete against Rob Carson and beat him at a solo contest for PAS , oh so long ago. I think we practiced by candle light while we had the wagons surrounding the camp fire. Yes, Garfield was the best. To bad to see Santa Clara so far down.
